I love cricket. I love statistics. I love writing.
(I love other things as well, but they're not relevant here)
A few years ago I started writing end-of-season reviews of my son's cricket team, waxing lyrical about games and performances, and analysing some of the statistical treasures I'd unearthed over the course of the season.
During the middle of the 2021 English cricket season, I randomly came across an "interesting" game of club cricket. This led me to some related club cricket stats that were "very interesting".
The following week I came across yet more cricket stats that were "very interesting".
I shared them with some friends.
Stattertainment was born...
Stattertainment is primarily focussed with cricket stats for club cricket.
I will typically avoid stories or stats that have already been covered in the national press.
Occasionally I will refer to professional cricket games, but usually only as a springboard onto similar events or statistics in the amateur game (there are many fabulous sites that dissect and discuss cricket stats from professional games).
The club cricket stats used are primarily ones that I have found on the ECB's Play Cricket website.
Play Cricket is an incredible treasure trove of information, but does have limitations:
- clubs' statistics are typically only available for the past 10 years or so (consequently the "best ever" statistics are only "best ever" in the period that statistics exist)
- each league has a different sub-site on Play Cricket, so comparing stats across different leagues is challenging
- not all games are fully scored on the site (e.g. fours and sixes, balls faced, fall of wicket information), and most don't provide ball by ball information. (Shame on you scorers of Britain...)
There is therefore no guarantee that the statistics used are accurate.
Stattertainment refers to clubs and individual cricketers, and their exploits - some good, some not so good.
I trust all parties mentioned by name will not be offended, as no offence is meant.
You have simply done something very special on a cricket pitch - something that I (and hopefully others) have found " very interesting"...
